10 second 'buzzer' 7 round tournament

There was a real buzz at our club on Friday 10 September 2021 as we held our 10 second 'buzzer' 7 round tournament last Friday which proved to be very exciting and great fun!

18 players took part which was just about the right number as it meant we could space the tables out with 2 extra tables for the book sale.
Having dodged the 1st round by taking a bye, Richard Ursell won the rest of his games to score 6.5 points to win comfortably. It was pleasing to see 4 juniors taking part.

"Fun" 10 Second Buzzer Tournament Results

The Southbourne Chess Club - 10 second Buzzer Tournament 2019Our (The Southbourne Chess Club) 10 second Buzzer Tournament was held on Friday 13th September. 16 players took part including welcomed guests from Bournemouth, Highcliffe, Poole and Wimborne, and it was won in convincing style by our (Southbourne's) exciting new speed demon, Declan Lovelock, who scored maximum points. Well played Declan, an exceptional performance!
Prizes were also won by Steve Pollyn & Brian Curran for coming joint 2nd and for winning the best U150 score and to John Harris for the best U125 score. All three are to be congratulated. Further, Richard Ursell won a bottle of wine for his excellent joint 2nd place performance. James Forster also performed well to come joint 2nd.
Many thanks and well done to all players who came along to make it a very enjoyable evening and special thanks to those who submitted and purchased chess books.

Martin writes
  • Good turnout, 24 players.
  • Pleasing to see players from other clubs and also some people who don't normally play.
  • Great fun, everyone enjoys the buzzer (I think!).
  • Bruce Jenks (180) was in good form to win with 6 points out of 7 with Reenen Du Toit (166) and Grzegorz Sawicki (175) equal 2nd half a point behind.
  • Some excellent individual performances, particularly Tim McCullagh (86) who despite his grade, scored above 50% and came equal 6th, Ken Dixon (89) who scored 50% and William Norwood (est 80) who scored 3 points in his first tournament.
